'How does it work?'

This is one of the most common questions I am asked when a potential customer contacts me. With so many tattooists out there, I understand it can sometimes seem confusing as to how to go about booking in – especially if you aren't quite sure what it is you want! So, to make things easier for you, here is a step-by-step on how I work. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line.

So, you want to get a tattoo?

It doesn't matter if you're after something specific, you've seen something you like but want to change, or you'd like me to design something myself. Simply fill out the form on the tattoo enquiries page explaining your ideas and I will get back to you. It's really important to let me know whereabouts on your body you'd like the tattoo, the rough size you'd like it to be, and if you have any existing tattoos in that area. It is also very helpful when customers send over a photo of the area and any reference images they have gathered.

Time and price estimation

Once I have all the details I need I can make a rough estimation of how long the tattoo will take and how much it will cost. Price can vary depending on the size, complexity and whether you opt for colour or black and grey. I charge an hourly rate for ongoing pieces such as sleeves, and for one-off pieces I charge a single fee. This will be calculated after we work out exactly what the tattoo will be.

Appointments

When all of the above has been decided and discussed we can start looking at dates for your appointment. When we've found one that works I will ask for a £50-£100 non-refundable deposit to reserve the slot. This will go towards the overall cost of the tattoo. If you'd like to send the deposit to me via PayPal, please do so by sending it to tattoosbyange@gmail.com as 'friends and family'. Alternatively, you can drop a cash deposit off to the studio you have made the appointment with.

When will I see my design?

I only draw up tattoo designs once a customer has booked in with a deposit. For customers who are booked in, I draw designs one or two days before each appointment. This means I cannot usually show you the design until the day of the session. However, I am more than happy to tweak it on the day if there is anything you are not happy with.

On the day

Please ensure that you have eaten a good meal before your appointment and that you bring along some food and a sugary drink or snack, especially if you have a long session booked in. Please refrain from drinking alcohol the night before, and the day of, the tattoo. Being well rested for the tattoo definitely makes a difference in how you sit, so getting an early night the night before is advised.

Payment

I accept payments via bank transfer and Paypal, as well as cash.
